Pulp & Paper Applications
Pulp & Paper Valve Solutions — Stock Handling, Chemical Service & Steam Control
Valve configuration options for pulp preparation, cooking and washing, bleaching, chemical recovery, paper machines and mill utility systems. Share the stock consistency or chemical composition, pressure–temperature conditions and project specifications for review by zpvevlave.
Common Pulp & Paper Valve Applications
Stock Preparation & Pulp Transfer
Isolate or control stock between repulpers, stock chests, refiners and transfer pumps. Confirm stock consistency, pulp type, contaminants, flow range and flushing arrangements.
Digesters, Blow Lines & Washing
Review cooking liquor, steam, cooked pulp and black-liquor filtrate around digesters, blow tanks, washers and screening systems for chemical pulp mill duties.
Bleaching & Oxygen Delignification
Isolate or control pulp, wash liquor and bleaching chemicals through reaction, washing and storage stages. Review chemical concentration, pH, chloride and temperature.
Chemical Recovery & Recausticizing
Review weak and strong black liquor, green liquor, white liquor, lime mud and wash streams where Kraft chemical recovery is used. Confirm solids, temperature and scaling tendency.
Paper Machine & Approach Flow
Control thin stock, dilution water, whitewater, fillers, additives, headbox feed, basis-weight adjustment and broke-return systems under defined flow and differential-pressure conditions.
Steam, Utilities & Effluent
Control dryer steam and condensate, and provide isolation or backflow protection in mill water, cooling water, vacuum, pump and effluent lines.
Service Conditions That Drive Pulp & Paper Valve Selection
The process stream—not the mill label—defines the valve configuration.
Stock Consistency, Pulp Type & Contaminants
Fiber concentration, pulp type, velocity and entrained debris affect dewatering, plugging risk, flow passage, control sizing and operating torque.
Liquor Solids, Temperature & Scaling
Black-liquor viscosity and scaling tendency increase as dry solids rise. Confirm weak or strong liquor, solids, temperature, phase and flushing requirements.
Bleaching Chemistry & Corrosion
Confirm the bleaching chemical, concentration, residual oxidizer, chloride level, pH and maximum temperature before reviewing wetted materials.
Differential Pressure, Cycling & Cleaning
Differential pressure, operating range, cycle frequency, shutoff direction and boil-out chemistry affect sizing, actuation, sealing and compatibility.

01 What information should I send for a pulp and paper valve quotation?
Provide the process area, valve duty, medium, stock consistency or liquor solids, chemical composition, pressure, temperature, differential pressure, line size, end connection, actuation, cleaning conditions and required document scope. If available, include the valve datasheet, MTO, P&ID or project specification.
02 Why is stock consistency needed before selecting or sizing a pulp valve?
Pulp stock does not always behave like clean water. Consistency, pulp type, differential pressure and velocity can affect dewatering, plugging risk, flow correction and actuator demand. Provide normal, startup and maximum consistency rather than one nominal value where possible.
03 Can a standard gate, ball or butterfly valve be used for pulp stock?
It depends on the consistency, fiber type, contaminants, flow duty and internal flow path. Some low-consistency or whitewater duties may suit conventional valve categories, while more fibrous or concentrated stock may require a specialized unobstructed passage. The service conditions should be reviewed before selecting the valve family.
04 What must be confirmed for a black-liquor valve?
Confirm whether the service is weak liquor, concentrated liquor or a specific evaporator effect. Include dry solids, density or viscosity when available, pressure, temperature, differential pressure, scaling tendency, flushing and whether the valve is for isolation or control.
05 How should valve materials be reviewed for chlorine-dioxide or peroxide bleaching?
Identify the exact bleaching chemical, concentration, residual oxidizer, chloride level, pH, maximum temperature and cleaning cycle. Body material alone is not enough—the trim, stem, seat, packing, fasteners and any lining must also be compatible with the confirmed service.
06 Which valve data matter for paper-machine basis-weight and approach-flow control?
Provide stock consistency, pulp type, minimum, normal and maximum flow, inlet and outlet pressure, required control range, actuator response, fail position and flushing arrangement. These conditions are needed to review the valve characteristic and operating range.
07 What should be confirmed for dryer steam and condensate valves?
Provide steam pressure and temperature, available differential pressure, condensate condition, control range, shutoff requirement, startup and grade-change conditions, cycle frequency, actuation and required fail position.
08 Do boil-out and cleaning chemicals need to be included in the valve review?
Yes. A valve may be compatible with the normal stock or process chemical but not with a concentrated caustic, acid, detergent or enzyme used during cleaning. Include the cleaning chemical, concentration, temperature, duration, frequency and flushing procedure.
