01 What information should I send for a marine valve quotation?
Send the vessel or project type, onboard system, valve duty and type, nominal size, pressure rating, end connection, service medium, operating pressure and temperature, operating method, quantity and required document scope. If available, include the valve schedule, datasheet, P&ID, equipment drawing or shipyard specification. Also identify any owner, yard, flag-state or classification requirement that applies to the package.
02 Can zpvevlave review an existing valve list, datasheet or P&ID?
Yes. 03 Does every marine valve require classification-society approval?
Approval requirements depend on the vessel, onboard system, flag, owner, shipyard specification and the applicable classification rules. Do not assume that every valve has the same approval or document requirement. State the required society, approval type, inspection scope and documents at the technical-review stage so they can be assessed against the confirmed valve configuration.
04 How should seawater valve materials be specified?
Do not specify only a generic “marine-grade” material or the valve body material alone. Provide seawater temperature, salinity or chloride level, chlorination, flow velocity, stagnant periods, fouling conditions and the connected piping material. The body, closure component, stem, seat and any coating or lining should be reviewed together, including galvanic compatibility with the connected system.
05 Can the same valve specification be used for seawater, fuel oil, bilge and freshwater systems?
Not automatically. These systems can differ in fluid chemistry, temperature, viscosity, suspended solids, corrosion conditions, pressure, operating cycle and project requirements. Confirm the actual service medium and duty for each line before applying a valve specification from one onboard system to another.
06 What should be confirmed for remotely operated ballast or bilge valves?
Confirm the valve location, required operation method, available electric power or instrument-air supply, control signal, normal and fail position, manual override, position indication, cycle frequency, installation orientation and available maintenance space. The actuator and valve should be reviewed as one package so that interfaces and operating requirements are clear before ordering.
07 Which documents and inspection records should be agreed before ordering?
Agree the document and inspection scope during technical review, before the purchase order is released. Depending on confirmed project requirements, the package may include datasheets, drawings, material information, inspection plans and pressure-test records. Any witness point, hold point, third-party inspection or owner, yard or classification documentation requirement should be identified at this stage.
08 How do I specify a replacement valve when the existing shipboard space is fixed?
Send clear photos of the installed valve and nameplate, together with the valve type, nominal size, pressure rating, end connection, face-to-face dimension, flange drilling, service medium and operating method. Also provide actuator dimensions, operating-clearance limits and the connection-pipe layout where available. A replacement should be reviewed against the installed interface rather than selected by nominal size alone.
